Roxbury Community College (RCC) will honor the Class of 2024 at the College’s 48th commencement ceremony on Friday, May 17, 2024. Emmy award-winning NBC10 Boston and New England Cable News (NECN) anchor Latoyia Edwards has been named the 2024 Commencement Keynote Speaker.

“Latoyia Edwards is an important voice in Boston and an inspiration to the RCC community,” says Interim President Jackie Jenkins-Scott. “She is a leader who is devoted to our community and believes in the power of education to transform lives.”
Edwards has been a fixture of NBC10 Boston and NECN for almost 19 years. She is a steady and trusted presence on the anchor desk who has moderated political debates, secured exclusive interviews, and covered important health issues.

Throughout her career she has been committed to supporting the Boston community she grew up in, emceeing countless local charity events and volunteering with youth groups like Girls Inc of Lynn, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston, Worcester, and Greater Lowell; Save the Children, EV KIDS and the Boston Arts Academy.

Edwards is a native of Dorchester and an alumna of Boston Latin Academy who graduated magna cum laude from Emerson College with a degree in broadcast journalism. She received an honorary doctorate from Endicott College for her contributions to the field of journalism. She was honored as a New Englander of the Year by The New England Council in 2023 and has been named into the Dorchester Hall of Fame. Edwards and her husband are raising their two children in Massachusetts.

"I'm ecstatic to serve as the commencement speaker for the exceedingly talented graduating class of Roxbury Community College,” says Edwards. “It's especially exciting given that RCC is immersed in a wonderful commemoration of its 50th anniversary. I look forward to celebrating the exceptional achievements of graduates, thus far, while sending them off into their next chapter with a message that empowers risk-taking, authenticity and inner joy."

Edwards will celebrate the accomplishments of RCC’s Class of 2024 with RCC faculty, staff, the College’s 2024 award winners, college supporters, and RCC alumni. The Class of 2024 exemplifies the talent, determination, and perseverance that has defined RCC since it was founded in 1973. The College will host its commencement ceremony at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center located at 1350 Tremont Street in Roxbury.
