Roxbury Community College Named Second Best Community College

RCC 800

As initially announced by Forbes, AcademicInfluence.com named Roxbury Community College (RCC) the second most influential community college among their ranking of the 50 Best Community Colleges in the nation. The ranking highlights significant contributions that RCC personnel have made in the fields of mathematics, criminal justice, education, nursing, biology, and computer science.

The rankings were derived from an initial list of 839 community colleges in the US that were fully accredited, enrolled at least 1,000 students, and primarily provided two-year, associate degree programs.  According to the ranking, the top 10 community colleges are:

  1. Anne Arundel Community College (Maryland)
  2. Roxbury Community College
  3. Eastern Maine Community College
  4. Springfield Technical Community College (Massachusetts)
  5. College of Marin (California)
  6. Los Angeles City College
  7. Lamar Institute of Technology (Texas)
  8. Kennedy-King College (Illinois)
  9. West Kentucky Community and Technical College
  10. Lamar State College - Port Arthur (Texas)
“I have always believed that RCC’s dedicated faculty, staff, and alumni network have provided RCC students with an exceptional and unique learning environment,” says Dr. Valerie Roberson, president of Roxbury Community College.  “I am thrilled, though not surprised, that RCC received such a high national ranking based on the influence of the RCC community.  I congratulate the entire community and look forward to learning of their continued impact.”

Overall, community colleges in Massachusetts were well represented in the ranking; Springfield Technical Community College (#4), Northern Essex Community College (#14), MassBay Community College (#16), Bunker Hill Community College (#18), and Holyoke Community College (#20) were ranked in the top 20, nationally.

The ranking is based on the overall impact of the faculty, alumni, and administrators associated with RCC. According to AcademicInfluence.com: “The people affiliated with a school are ultimately what make it great.”

Additional information on the impressive work produced by the RCC Community is available throughout the website.  The news and updates page, past issues of the RCC Gazette, and the Student Spotlight page provide a glimpse into the faculty, alumni, staff, and students who make RCC a top-ranked institution of higher education.
