Roxbury Community College Announces New Foundation Board

Roxbury Community College (RCC) is pleased to announce that after a thorough review of Foundation assets by the Honorable Leslie Harris, the Roxbury Community College Foundation (RCCF) is re-launching with a new Board. The new RCCF Board is chaired by Reverend Dr. Ray Hammond, co-founder and pastor of Bethel AME church.

Former RCC Board of Trustees Chairman Gerald Chertavian, Mark Culliton, The Honorable Leslie Harris, Reverend Dr. Evan Charles Hines, Gregory King, Grace H. Lee, Eva Mitchell, Stephanie Monaghan, Dr. Valerie Roberson, RCC Board of Trustees Chairman Steven Tompkins, and Robert V. Ward Jr, Esquire are members of the new RCCF Board.

“I am grateful to Judge Harris for his careful review of Foundation assets, as well as his leadership of Foundation finances while we established the new Board,” says Dr. Valerie Roberson, president of Roxbury Community College. “I look forward to working with all of our new board members to raise funding to support our mission and our students.”

The new RCCF Board is set to host its first fundraising endeavor while simultaneously honoring one of the great Roxbury families with Legends of Roxbury: A Celebration of Haynes Family. This tribute, which will honor the Haynes brothers, Douglas, C. Vincent, Roy, and the late Rev. Dr. Michael Haynes, will be held on November 9, 2019. World-renown jazz guitarist Pat Metheny will headline the tribute.

“The Haynes Brothers have left an indelible mark on so many levels, not only in the Boston area, but around the world,” said Sheriff Tompkins. “Their work and achievements on civil rights; Jazz; spirituality; community activism and so much more stand as testaments to their influence and importance to our community, and I am proud to be among those recognizing their collective legacy while helping to raise capital for another exceptional community resource in Roxbury Community College.”

The RCCF is organized and operated exclusively for the benefit of the College and its students. Per Massachusetts public law regarding the establishment of foundations for the benefit of institutions of higher education, the Board of Trustees of the College has certified the Foundation as the official foundation and sole fundraising agent for non-government funds for the College.
